UNESCO Media Arts Cities collaborate Call for Artists: City to City 2021 PLAY! Apply by 30 June

Updated: May 18, 2021

Following last year’s successful first edition of City to City, the Media Arts Network of UNESCO Creative Cities is launching the 2021 Edition - on the theme of PLAY!

The pandemic means that, for millions of people, everything is still on hold. We have faced the loss of those we love. We have endured months of lockdown, and we are yearning for ways to restore our relationships with the world and with one another. Can we use our creativity to help rebuild our relationships, our communities and our cities, only better than before? Can our technologies help us learn to play again? What will happen when, finally, we press PLAY?

The fourteen UNESCO Media Arts Cities taking part are Austin, Braga, Calí, Changsha, Dakar, Enghien-les-Bains, Guadalajara, Gwangju, Karlsruhe, Kosice, Sapporo, Toronto, Viborg and York. Artists from these cities will collaborate online over three months to devise and create a number of works that respond to the theme of PLAY! The artworks must be presented in a digital format, and be suitable for inclusion in the second City to City online exhibition.

The 2020 edition can be viewed here https://www.bragamediaarts.com/en/city-city/

To be eligible you must live in, work in, or have a demonstrable connection to, the city of York, such as being a Guild member. The artist selected for York will receive an award of £2000 inclusive of all aspects of the project. Selection will be based on an application form and accompanying materials.
