Orillo is a film production company based in both York and London, specialising in commercial and digital content.
Four alumni of York St John’s Film & Television Production course (now media production), set up Orillo straight after they graduated from university, back in 2010, and they are fast approaching their tenth year in business, having grown from four to fourteen strong in that time.
At the heart of the company sits the following mission:
"Orillo is on a journey to be at the heart of our industry, developing and producing films that are award-winning, innovative and, most importantly, creative. Our mission is to tell compelling stories through film, whilst collaborating and enjoying the process.”
Orillo has done everything from pop-up cinemas to launching their own vodka in the hope of bringing people together through the brand. Diversity in the types of films they make is one of the most important things that keep the Orillo team engaged and excited with what they are doing as a company. The film company understand that the team are what makes Orillo truly special, so invest heavily in their training and development both in and outside of work, and have worked relentlessly to build a culture that is supportive, inspiring and progressive.
In 2020/21, Orillo are casting their eyes to the world of sailing as they approach the second series of SailGP, the 14th edition of The Ocean Race [formerly the Volvo Ocean Race] and the 36th America’s Cup which will hopefully take Orillo to some of the Creative Cities around the world, as projects have done over the last 6-7 years.
Established in York and founder-members of the Guild of Media Arts, the development of the Creative Cities Network by UNESCO is something Orillo are truly inspired by and feel it mirrors their own mission in many ways.
If science and academia represent the brains of the world, then creativity and culture are most certainly the heart, and it’s important to strengthen and enhance these areas to help cities flourish and grow.
Orillo say they "are all about being collaborative and working with other talented individuals to create content that pushes boundaries and elevates everyone’s skill set to another level working together, which we also feel is reflected in the UNESCO Creative Cities initiative".

Orillo are looking to expand their team further by hiring a VFX Artist who can bring their own creative flair and apply it to the projects they are working on - Orillo actively encourage all of their team to put a personal stamp on everything they make, and so are looking for someone who is as creative, passionate and highly driven as the rest of the team, who can’t wait to see what the successful applicant will bring to the table, and it’s certainly exciting to be expanding the company once again.
