City to City 2020: Human Responsibility
Ten UNESCO Creative Cities of Media Arts from around the world are working together to create an exhibition of five artworks, made collaboratively by ten artists working in pairs, city to city.
The works in this inaugural edition of City to City will respond to the theme Human Responsibility. The participating cities are Austin (United States), Braga (Portugal), Calí (Colombia), Changsha (China), Guadalajara (México), Karlsruhe (Germany), Kosice (Slovakia), Sapporo (Japan) and York (United Kingdom).
The works will be premiered as part of the programme of both Kosice’s Art & Tech Days festival, and York Mediale 2020.
Works will be presented online between 24-29 November.
Applicants from any creative field, including core media arts technologies, are
eligible although your application must demonstrate the capability to undertake
online collaboration and to realise work that can be distributed and consumed
via digital media. You should have a demonstrable connection to York, such as
living or working in the city, or membership of the Guild of Media Arts.
A panel representing Mediale, the Guild and York Creatives will select the artist
to represent York. The selected artist will receive an award of £1000. A further
award of £300 will be awarded to the runner-up. A further amount of £1200 in
total will be available to support the costs of production and presentation of all
five works in York.
Submissions must consist of a completed Application Form and a portfolio of
relevant and recent work that is accessible online or digitally. The Application
pack and form can be downloaded from Google Drive here or below.
Queries should be directed to Chris Bailey, Clerk of the Guild of Media Arts –
Applications must be submitted by 2pm on Friday 25 September.
