James Dodson runs Terra_Bytes Pop-Up VR & produces 360º photography and video

In December 2018, James joined the court of the Guild of Media Arts having been a standard member since we opened our doors in 2014. James joined the court because he wanted to give something back to the creative community and contribute to making the Guild more visible more locally and nationally.

We asked a few questions about who is, what makes him tick and what you can ask him about at a social. Over to you, James.

Who are you, where do you live, what do you do and why do you do what you do? I’m James and I run Terra_Bytes Pop-Up VR. I’ve been passionate about all things reality, virtual or augment and decided the best way to get other people interested was to take the excitement to them. More recently I’ve branched out into 360º photography and film

What are you working on at the moment? I’m currently working on interactive projections which would allow people to interact with light projections in interesting ways.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this? I spent a lot of time working in pubs, so more than likely I’d either be working in a pub or an alcoholic (or both).

What’s the most interesting job you’ve ever had? I spent a year as a communications officer at a students union. It was one of the most interesting and rewarding jobs and I even got to meet John Peel!

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor and why?Rick Sanchez

Now that the standard questions are over and done with, we thought we'd ask James some of the more important questions. You know, about the important things in life.

What is the one thing you cannot resist Beer or rice, depends how hungry/thirsty I am

Where is your favourite place to be? In the sunshine.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Draw.

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, what do you do? Play a game or read the paper.

What’s your favourite indoor/outdoor activity? Video games! I’m just a big kid and enjoy nothing more than a good gaming session.

What music are you listening to at the moment? Anything that’s on the radio. Although Childish Gambino and Dave are current favourites of mine.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? Leonardo Da Vinci, I’d ask for his designs :)
