Film Projection ON Cliffords Tower: Made in collaboration with 200+ young people over summer 2019

You are the next chapter of the Castle Gateway story. Shape your city, shape your future.

Join the Eye Project on Saturday 25th January 2020 at Cliffords Tower, 5.30pm - 8.30pm.

The films represent workshops run in late 2019 by local artists, engaging local York residents. As part of the workshops taking place across the city, participants made zines and banners on the Arts Barge, we animated some serious characters from history (see below), we made architectural time lapses, modelled mounds, planted seeds, and did lots of talking.

This community-led project has developed so many exciting narratives about the potential for the new public realm and engaged the next generation in a conversation about urban development, environment and democracy.

Can you pick a specific character and stop on it?

Kaizen Arts CIC has been working with 4 artists*, Inkblot Films + English Heritage, plus hundreds of York’s young people to explore the way we shape the Castle Gateway through a major development of the site, all part of the City of York Council’s public engagement process.

The project is funded through Leeds City Region Business Rates Pool, which allows local authorities to retain growth in business rates for local investment. It is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. It is also supported by City of York Council and York Mediale. Thanks also to the University of York Music Department, who have provided support for this project.
