In Summer 2018, The Arts Council commissioned Golant Media to carry out research seeking answers to three questions.
How is resilience currently understood in the arts and culture sector?
Are organisations becoming more resilient and, if so, how are they doing this?
What opportunities might there be to develop the sector’s resilience in the future?
The report is the result of the research which used a number of approaches including a literature review, extensive quantitative and qualitative surveys, a number of workshops and one to one interviews with experts, academics and practitioners is now available for review and download.
As a Guild of Media Arts, these sorts of documents provide insight into where we are, where we're going and how we fit in. What do you think? Does this document influence your work? Does it reflect your experiences?
Attend the 2019 conference:
Inspired by The Audience Agency and Golant Media Ventures' recent Arts Council England commissioned report What is Resilience Anyway? – representing the views of more than 1000 cultural practitioners – this summit is an opportunity to map the next steps.

Where next for resilience?
A summit on securing the future
Wednesday 23 January 2019, 10:00 - 16:30
The Birmingham Hippodrome, Hurst Street, Birmingham, B5 4TB
Partnering with Culture Central, we'll be sharing previously unreleased insights, offering practical solutions for debate and gathering leading thinkers and doers from the creative, public and third sectors for a lively discussion.
This event is all about dialogue. The day will include active discussion and creative scenario planning, exploring key themes ignited by the What Is Resilience Anyway? report, including:
Are we prepared? The current lack of consistent resilience planning and decision making in the cultural sector.
Are we willing? The sector's enthusiasm for innovation and embracing the core behavioural shifts that make long-term resilience possible.
Are we on the right track? The mismatch between what we think is important for resilience versus what we actually practice.
